I describe myself as a contemporary realist who paints in acrylic, oil, and mixed mediums. I enjoy painting various subjects; however, my preference is animal or pet portraits. My style is whimsical and playful, with a broad use of textures and vibrant colors to depict the personality of my subjects. I strive to evoke feelings of happiness and a love for life in the viewers of my art.
I grew up near Green Bay, Wisconsin in the 70's. My parents were very supportive of my diverse interests in music, dance, and the visual arts, and encouraged me to learn about art in its many forms. I went on to take several art classes in college at the UW-Madison, learning various styles of drawing and multi-media techniques. I took a break from art while completing my doctorate in Pediatric Neuropsychology in California.
In 2000, I settled in South Carolina, where I met my husband and two step-sons. Shortly after getting married, I dusted off my art supplies, and started taking painting classes from local artists. In addition to local talents, such as Julia Peters and Guy Stevens, I have also been influenced by George Rodrigue of Louisiana and Lee Call (aka Alicia VanNoy Call) of Arizona. I currently work in my home studio on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina. I am inspired by my beautiful, kind, funny, and wise dog, Sadie, and by many other animal and human friends and family.
